Peter Murray is a bassist, singer-songwriter and producer from Toronto. Currently he is a member of the progressive rock band Druckfarben, which has now released two CDs (Druckfarben and Second Sound) and one live DVD (Artifact). He’s also the bassist for The Dave Murphy Band.

Peter has performed with many of Canada’s top artists including Ron Sexsmith (Blue Boy world tour, 2001-2002), Damhnait Doyle (touring in Canada and recording on her 2002 album Davnet), Sass Jordan, Honeymoon Suite, Royal Wood, Suzie McNeil, Jian Ghomeshi, Tomi Swick and many others. He’s shared the stage with Seymour Duncan, Stevie Salas (Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart), Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Blue Murder), Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors), Nick DiVirgilio (Spock’s Beard, Genesis), Richard Bell (Janis Joplin, The Band), Bobby Economou (Jaco Pastorius, Blood Sweat & Tears) and many other great players. He’s recorded with Cash Brothers, David Celia, Dayna Manning, Jory Nash, Julie Doiron, Lights, Mia Sheard, Michael Holt, Stewart Agnew, Broad Way Sleep and others.

In the 1990s, Peter was the bassist (and co-writer) for Surrender Dorothy, and was signed internationally to MCA/Universal Records and BMG Music Publishing. The band toured Europe 7 times, released one album (serum) in 1996, and shot four music videos.

In 2006, Peter released his debut singer-songwriter album, Ants and Angels. It was met with critical acclaim and charting positions on several American AAA-format radio stations. Peter toured this material in Ireland, Germany, Japan, Korea, the USA and Canada.

Peter has produced albums by Wooden Stars, Pamela Brennan, Snailhouse and Morgan Finlay.

Essential Bass Technique, Peter’s instructional book on the practical mechanics of bass playing, was first released by Mel Bay Publications in 1995, and has been published by Hal Leonard Corp since 2000. It received an A+ review in Bass Player magazine, and endorsements from Billy Sheehan, Michael Manring, Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith) and many others. In 2015, a 20th Anniversary edition will be released with accompanying video content.
